APJ

The last post was titled, AJ, so just decided to naamakaran this as APJ !!

and the reason ? I was going thro' some " old stuff " in my suitcase, and I found some nice treasures... for one I found some of my favorite Mallu poems, which my mom had sent me copying from the highschool textbooks, when I was at IITM....

"Mambazham" (Angana Thaimaavil Ninnaadyathe Pazham Veezhke) by Changampuzha and "Mohangal" (Oru Vattam Koodiya Pazhaya Vidyaalaya) by ONV

Why am I feeling so nostalgic.... with weeks left for my India trip... hopefully...

And ya, I found my li'l autograph book from IITM... had all kinds of signatures.. from that of APJ Kalaam to Shobha De (O well !!) ... It was a pleasure to see that li'l book.....

and lastly, Happy Birth-stars Mother and Father... Achanumammakkum Pirrannaalaasamsakal (Aug 10 and 11 this year - I had to tell them for them to remember !!)

mAmpazham puzzles me so much : on one hand a line like "...dIrghadarshanam ceyyum daivajn~arallO nin.n.aL" doesn't seem to make sense as there seems to be no causal connection between the mother's chiding and the kid's death. However it is so moving, and its rendition at malayalavedhi has almost moved me to tears.

Somehow I fail to see the work earlier writers like the kavitrayam or ezhuttacchan as appealing straight to heart the way mAmpazham or the poems of kun~n~irAman nAyar do. Isn't ONV often too leftist and pessimistic?

Anyway nice to see about mAmpazham on mAmpazhi's blog.
